cathyCathy Christensen-Curry, LCSW, Certified HEAL Graduate 2015.
Helena. MT USA

“Intentional Transformation”.   Completion of the HEAL Facilitator Training Program was the culmination of my efforts to be qualified to use horses to help people heal.  When I was ten-years-old, a horse became my healer and I’ve spent the rest of my life seeking how to bring this gift to others. I have explored other models but am extremely grateful to have found the HEAL method. I appreciate the clinically sound aspects of this model but even more, I appreciate the integrity with which it is written, taught and implemented. It embodies the very principles of healing through connection that I’ve always felt was the horse’s message to me. The entire experience was such a blessing, as is the realization that I am a part of the wonderful HEAL network of practice! I am very excited to be adding EFPL to my current clinical practice with individuals, children, and families.

“My work in Norway is with young people with drug addiction who are in treatment at Oslo University Hospital. We have a horse program, based on Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy and Learning. I have been running this program since 1996. The HEAL training has been extremely valuable in developing this program further, and has deepened my understanding of how powerful the horse work can be.  I learned a lot about myself on this journey, thanks to the horses and the HEAL team and teachers. My fellow students have forever a place in my heart and contributed to my growth, all in their own way.”

Marianne Østby-Deglum, certified HEAL graduate 2013

“I live outside of Hamar, 1.5 hour north of Oslo, the Capital of Norway.  I run my own horse-facility, based on board horses and hosting events like clinics and shows. We also have our own veterinarian clinic and have a rehabilitation program for horses.  I have an agriculture education related to horses, and am a certified riding instructor with the Norwegian Riding Academy. I am half way through a bachelor degree in Pedagogy, with Disability and Society as my main subject.  I wanted to work with horses and humans in a way that wasn’t performance oriented… that was when I found HEAL, which has shown me new ways of being able to help people learn about them selves and their horses.  I will integrate the method into my work with children with special needs.”

Susan Kiloran Turner, Certified HEAL Graduate 2013
Susan & B

For me the HEAL training is beyond happiness it is fulfillment. The fine tuned interplay between theory and practical horsemanship skills has prepared me well for establishing EFP for the Unicorn service.

I have a special interest in working with trauma and attachment issues. Where traumatic history creates undermining patterns in relationships EFP is proving to to be effective in nurturing new connections and healing.

EFP is indeed life changing what ever your age!

My heart is very thankful to Leigh Shambo and David Young,to the teachers human and horses and also to my herd/peers from Norway, US and UK .

Simply the best training I ever been part of!  Leigh and David have done a great job developing the HEAL model.  Knowing it has a clear grounding in research and experience gives me confidence to apply it in my work with clients.  Whilst at times quite challenging, the training program was comprehensive, covering both theory and the practical application along with some personal development.  Throughout the whole process, guidance and support was on hand and readily offered.  This was indeed a life changing experience, which has opened my eyes to the amazing gift that working with horses can be.  Having completed the training and experienced the power of the work I am enthusiastic to develop my own practice so that others may benefit too!
